Federal Enlisted Frock Coat Workshop

Quilted Lining

Are you in reproducing a top-notch Enlisted Frock Coat reproduction, but don’t know where to start?

Not satisfied with the sack-like quality of many of the reproductions on the market today?

I am pleased to announce a home-study course on how to tailor one of these fine garments yourself. The course is completely self-paced, and you will receive a new module weekly over a period of twelve weeks in your email inbox. The course is taught via printable PDF instructions, video examples, and a message board for answering your questions. At the end of these twelve weeks, you will have in your possession an article of clothing that you will cherish the rest of your life.

The Federal Enlisted Frock Coat is often regarded as being mysterious and complicated to construct. Through my step by step guide, complete with detailed drawings and descriptions, we will unlock these mysteries and other secrets of the tailoring trade.

Are you tired of trousers that don’t fit you properly? Patterns typically are made to fit a wide range of people, so there will always be something not-quite-right about them, unless you do extensive fittings. The solution is to draft your own custom patterns, using five or more measurements.

New Design

A gentleman.

I’ve switched to a new layout. It’s a simpler design, and more of my style. While I’ll never be 100% satisfied with a design, this should enable me to do things more easily on the site. For instance, I now have a featured article on the top of the home page. My more substantial and useful articles will be posted there in the future. Below that are the normal blog posts. Also coming are descriptions and price estimates of the clothing I can make. Please stand by while I clean up a few bugs and add more content.

Welcome to the new website for Williams Clothiers. I specialize in recreating clothing from the mid-1800s, and in particular, the American Civil War. In the future, I plan to post about tailoring techniques, drafting, new projects, and other information that I feel will be of interest to you. The tailoring business today is nothing like it was in the past, with a tailor on every block. Many people now go their whole lives without visiting a tailor, and

I feel it is important to help preserve the knowledge of the tailor , before even more is lost.
